This is a Phase 3 Navajo Blanket ( chief blanket) made circa 1870-1880, it has some wear, stains, rough edges, but it is a true piece of history. You can read about Navajo Blankets and educate yourself on what is real and what isn’t. This one is real and old and has been in the store’s collection for years. We have decide to put it up for sale, so if you want a real chief’s blanket here your chance, it maybe a short sale , some local collectors are interested as well. The original function of Navajo weaving was to produce clothing: “shoulder robes, rectangular panel or wrap-around-dresses, semi-tailored shirts, breechcloths, and a variety of belts, shoulder robes, sashes, hair ties, and garters.”[2] The production of weaving flourished after the mid 1800s for trade with the white settlers.
